BAXTER, Elijah – Private, Co H of 101st PA. (Photo of Marker) He was the son of Samuel and Anna Baxter of Pulaski, Beaver County. He enlisted September of 1861 at the age of 19 into Co. H of the 101st. He
was from a farm family. He was discharged March 29, 1863 on a Surgeon’s Certificate (Bates Vol 3 p 625) due to chronic diarrhea and rheumatism. He then enlisted in Co. M of the 56th Regiment, Penn
sylvania Volunteer Infantry serving in the Artillery from February 28 1864 to November 9, 1865. He served nearly four years. He is listed in the 1890 Veterans Census as being blind. Became totally blind in November 1888 at Beaver Valley St. RR Co. stable due to a kick from a horse that damaged his spine, a concussion, and also damaged his optic nerve.He was buried at Upper (North Sewickley) Presbyterian Cemetery, Ellwood City, Beaver County, PA. BOOTS, Edward Nicholas – Sergeant (Photo), Company H 101st PA.
He was born December 19, 1833 in Marion Township, Beaver Co., PA. He was the son of Rev. John & Sylvia (Coleman) Boots. According to the 1860 Federal Census there is no father in the home at that time. Ed is the oldest son living with his mother, five brother and two sisters. Edward was a teacher at the time of his enlistment when he 27. He mustered in 29 October 1861 as a Sergeant. He was then promoted to Full Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant on 13 November 1862 (Bates Vol 3 p 625). Eventually he reenlisted on 1 January 1864 and was with his Regiment on 20 April 1864 when it was captured at Plymouth, North Carolina.  He died from scorbutus and starvation while a prisoner on 12 September 1864 at notorious Andersonville, GA. He is buried in grave #8606. In 1883 his mother Sylvia, received a mother’s pension for his service. His brother William served in the 139th Pennsylvania Infantry. A memorial stone is located at North Sewickley Cemetery, Beaver Co., PA. GAR # 1412. (He is the great, great grand uncle of Ed Boots Jr of ‘EdwardBoots.com’.) BOOTS William D (b. 16 February 1840 d. 2 March 1903) – Corporal Co H 139th PA Volunteer Infantry (Bates Vol 4 p 400). 1850 Census he was the 10 year old son of John Boots (40), a farmer born in England, and Sylvia Boots (42), his siblings included Edward N (16), John (12), Horace (8), Sylvia (6), Lucy (4), Richmond (3) and Daniel (1), they live in Marion Township, Beaver County, PA. 1860 Census his father is missing and the family has added Smith (12) and Javis (10). He served from 6 September 1862 to 21 June 1865. 1870 Census William is the head of the family, still farming in Marion Township with his mother Jabez (18) and Emma (23). 1880 he is listed in the Census as alone. But the Daniel Boots family is just before him on the Census Record. 1890 Veterans Census he is now listed as living in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County. 1900 Census he is found as a farm laborer living with his sister Lucy in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, PA. Dying in 1903 he is buried at North Sewickley Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


BUNZO, Theophilus L. – (Photo of Marker) Sixth Sergeant, Co. G, 18th Regiment, PA Cavalry (163rd Volunteers) 9 November 1862. (b. 1840, d. 1886) He was from North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. His unit was to the left of Round Top on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg. He transferred out of 18th Cavalry Regiment on
24 Jun 1865 at Cumberland, MD and when the 18th was formed into the 3rd Provisional he transferred into Company C, 3rd Pro Cavalry Regiment Pennsylvania,  which was stationed at Clarksburg, West Virginia. He mustered out 3rd Pro Calvary on 31 October 1865 at Cumberland, MD. Bates reports that he was captured, mustered of with the company C 3 Regiment Provisional Calvary 31 October 1865 (Bates Vol 4 p 1065). September 23, 1892 he received a pension for his service. His wife was Sylvia C. (b. 1844, d. 1910).

 

 


CLARK, James – Corporeal, Co F, 134th PA Volunteer Infantry (Bates Vol 4 p 293). (Photo of Marker) He was from Wurtemburg, Wayne Township, Lawrence County, PA. (b. 1827, d. 1901) He enlisted 6 August 1862 and was discharged 26 May 1863 on account of a wound. Bates: The 134th was a nine month company. When Capt. Alfred Riddle resigned on 30 November 1862 James M Clark was promoted from 1st Lt. December 1 1862. He was mustered out with the company May 26, 1863. In 1890 Veteran’s Census he lived in New Castle. He is buried in North Sewickley Cemetery.


EAKIN Samuel (b. 1844, d. 1898) Private Co. F 76th PA Volunteer Infantry. His wife is Mary A. (b. 1847, d. 1923). The 1890 Veterans Census lists Samuel S Eakin living in Patterson Township, Beaver Falls, Beaver County, PA who served in the Co. F of the 76th PA Infantry from 4 January 1864 to July 15, 1865 (Not listed in Bates Vol 2 p 969). He served 1 year, 5 months and 11days. The Census reported he was wounded and rheumatism occurred in the service. He is probably the Samuel Eakin buried at North Sewickley Cemetery. An Adaline Eakin, widow of Samuel Eakin received a widow’s pension for his service in the Civil War Aug. 19, 1898 from the state of Pennsylvania. He had received an invalid pension Dec. 23 1879. His service was in the 76th Ohio Infantry. The 1900 Census has a widow, Mary A (Adaline) Eakin, living on College Hill in Beaver Falls with her daughter Della and son-in-law Frank Campbell.

 


FREED, David – Private, Co C 101st PA Volunteer Infantry (Bates Vol 3 p 615). (Photo of Marker) Born 24 April 1841 in Beaver County the son of Abraham & Catherine Freed. He enlisted at age 20 at Newport, Lawrence County, a laborer from Big Beaver Township, Lawrence County. Mustered in 19 Oct 1861 he was hospitalized soon after enlisting for impaired hearing. He was in the hospital at Camp Curtin, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for 3 months and then in Reading, Pennsylvania for 9 months. He was discharged at Harrisburg 3 September 1862 and was totally deaf for the rest of his life. He never married but lived with his brother Peter. He died 17 or 18 May 1911 in Newport, Perry County, PA and is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County. GAR #1404. FREED Peter W (b. 4 August 1846 d. 13 April 1923 at Newport, Lawrence County) – Private Co. H 199th PVI (Bates Vol 5 p 513). 1850 Census he was the son of Abraham Freed, a farmer in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. His siblings were Mary (18), David (10), Jacob (7), Peter is 4 and Catharine a newly born. Peter enlisted 21 September 1864 and was mustered out 28 June 1865 at Richmond, VA. 1870 Census he, a laborer, was married to Dorcas S (19) and was living in Mount Jackson with a one year old daughter Alvaretta. 1880 Census he is a laborer living near Wampum with his wife Darcus and another daughter Olive May (4). 1890 Census still living in Wampum. 1900 Census he is a widowed boarder living in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, PA. 1910 Census he works in a stone quarry and lives in Newport with his brother David and his new wife Samantha (49). 1920 Census, he and Samantha lives near Newport and he is a foreman on the railroad. He received a pension 25 August 1882 and his wife, Samantha R received a widow’s pension 27 August 1923. He was a track foreman at the time of his death. Peter W. Freed, aged 76 years, died at home in Newport, PA this morning following an extended illness. He was a member of Chewton Christian Church. Funeral services Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the residence, Rev. Charles Durbin and Rev. J. B. Bingham in charge. (New Castle News, Friday, April 13, 1923). Interment in North Sewickley cemetery. His father was Abraham Freed and his mother Catherine Freed. His wife was Rebecca Mewherter Freed (1860-1936).


FRIEDRICH Fredrick (b. 1824, d. 1908) – Private Co. G, 168th PA Infantry. He is buried at North Sewickley Cemetery. 1880 Census: Probably born in Hessen Darmstadt, Germany with his wife Elizabeth. They had two children Fredrick (17) and Henry (14). They lived on a farm in North Sewickley Township. 1890 Veterans Census: Private Co. G, 168th PA Infantry from 6 August 1862 to July 1863 (Bates Vol 4 p 1144). He lived in North Sewickley Township. Suffering from Rhuematism. In the hospital at time of census with measles. Buried at North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery.


FUNKHOUSER, William T – Private, Batty H, 5th PA Heavy Artillery Regiment (204th Infantry) (Bates Vol 5 p 623). (Photo of Marker) He enlisted 5 September 1864. Mustered out on 30 June 1865 at Pittsburgh, PA. It was reported in the 1890 Veteran’s Census that he had rheumatism and still lived in North Sewickley Township. He is buried at North Sewickley Cemetery. His wife was Rosina M (b. 1846, d. 1928).

 

 

 


HAZEN John Beaver (b. 13 February 1835 d. 29 March 1909) – Private Co B 14th Regiment PA Volunteer Cavalry (159th Regiment PVI (Stanton Cavalry)). 1850 Census he is the 15 year old son of a farmer, John Hazen (52) and his wife Elizabeth (54). Children included on the census are Marth (27), Andrew (19), John (15), Mary (12) and Louisa Blair (8 months old) living in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. He served from 12 October 1862 until mustered out by general order 28 May 1865 (Bates Vol 4 p 864). 1880 Census he is a 44 year old farmer living in North Sewickley Township with his wife Sarah (35), they had been married in 1858, and the following children Alice (21), Elmar (18), James (14), Mary (10), Judeth (9), Nora (6) Nathan (4) and Home (2). 1890 Veteran’s Census he lives in Hazel Dell. In 1900 Census they live in Wayne Township, Lawrence County. Burial: North Sewickley Cemetery, Beaver County, PA. His father was John Hazen and his mother Elizabeth Caldwell. He received a pension for his service 10 June 1880 his widow Sarah M received a widow’s pension 6 April 1909.


HORNECK Charles – A Charles Horneck received a civil war pension for service in Co I 35th PVI (not listed in Bates), Co I 74th PVI (not listed in Bates), Co H 101st PVI (not listed in Bates) and Co H 193rd PVI ( from 19 July 64 mustered out with Co 9 November 1864 (Bates Vol 5 p 387). He received that pension on 22 October 1890 from the State of PA. Otherwise he was not found in the local area in 1850, 1860, 1870 or 1890 Census Records. He is buried at North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery per the 1936 WPA Report.


HORNER David Wesley (b. 1844 d. 10 December 1864) – Private Co H 101st PA Volunteer Infantry 21 December 1863 to 20 April 1864 (Bates Vol 3 p 623). David was a shoemaker from New Brighton, PA when he enlisted in Co H. He was captured 20 April 1864 with the 101st Regiment in Plymouth, North Carolina and died 10 December 1864 at Florence Stockade Prisoner of War camp, Florence, SC. 1850 Census David was the 5 year old son of Simpson, a farmer (born in England – age 32) and Margaret (32 – born in PA) Horner, children David and Mary (2). The family lived in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.  1860 Census he was living with John and Harriet Watson, a shoe maker in New Brighton, Beaver County, PA, he was an apprentice shoe maker. He died on 10 December 1864. Most prisoners who died at Florence were buried in mass graves. It is this researcher’s guess that only a marker is located at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Beaver County, PA.


HUMPHREY Samuel M (b. 1844 d. 1925) – Private Co F 58th PA Volunteer Infantry. He served from 4 October 1864 when he was drafted, he was mustered out 15 October 1865 at the expiration of his term of service (Bates Vol 2 p 308). 1850 Census Samuel is the name of the 6 year old son of William (45) and Mary (45) Humphreys of Warsaw, Jefferson County, PA. His siblings included Richard (15), Sarah (9), Samuel and Mary (2). His two uncles lived with them Matthew (34) and John (27) Humphreys. 1900 Census they live in Franklin Township, Beaver County, PA with two boarders Thomas Stratton (36) and Miles Shaffer (22). 1910 Census Samuel and Kate farm and live in Warren, Trumbull County, OH. Kate’s mother Ruhama Clark (82) lives with them. 1920 Census Samuel and Kate farm and live on Ellwood Road in Shenango Township, Lawrence County, PA. He received an invalid pension 10 January 1891 for his military service, his wife Kate Humphrey’s received a Widow’s Pension 4 February 1928. He is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery which is now known as North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


JACKSON Andrew listed as a veteran in CIVIL WAR WPA 1936 Report. Researcher could not find absolute evidence as to whom this man is expect he is buried at North Sewickley Presbyterian Cemetery, Beaver County, PA. 1860 Census there are three Andrew Jacksons in North Sewickley Township listed in the Census, which one is he is uncertain. At least one Andrew Jackson served in the 1st Regiment, Pennsylvania Light Artillery (14th Reserves) 44th PA Volunteer Infantry. If that is our man we are uncertain.



KNOX James William
(b. 1845 d. 26 November 1922) – Private Co A 139th PA Volunteer Infantry from 27 February 1864 to 7 April 1865 (not listed in Bates). 1880 Census he was a thirty three old farmer in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, PA. He and his wife, Mary Catherine Rouser Knox (19) (1861-1910) were childless.

1910 Census he is a widowed boarder in the home of Scot and Annie Corl on Park Avenue in Ellwood City, PA. Death Certificate: He died from prostate cancer 26 November 1922 in New Castle, PA. He had been a widower and was alone. His burial was in North Sewickley Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. He shares a cemetery marker with his brother Joseph.


KNOX Joseph (b. 15 March 1821, d. 15 Nov. 1906) Joseph G. Knox, mustered into Co. B, 100th PA Volunteer Infantry on August 31, 1861 was promoted from Sergeant to Captain.  Bates reports that he was promoted to 1st Sergeant 31 December 1862, to 1st Lieutenant 23 November 1864 – was wounded at Spotsylvania Court House, VA 12 May 1864 mustered out with company 24 July 1865 (Bates Vol 3 p 568). He was born in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA.

 


LASURE Chand He is listed in the 1936 WPA Project as a Civil War Veteran buried at North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery the researcher could find no information about him.


LOCKHART Richard W He is listed in the 1936 WPA Project as a Civil War Veteran buried at North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery the researcher could find no information about him.


LOZIER Edward (b. 1826, d. 1900) Served in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War as Acting Second Assistant Engineer, S. S. St. Clair. He was honorably discharged. 1890 Veterans Census: He served from 7 November 1862 until 5 November 1865 – 2 years, 11 months, 28 days. He had received a gunshot wound in the groin. The St. Clair was a wooden, stern-wheel, river steamer built in 1862 at Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, was purchased on 13 August that year by the Navy Department to patrol in the Mississippi River.


MAIN Andrew Jackson (b. 1 January 1839 d. 21 August 1891 Franklin, Venango County, PA) – Private Battery B 5th PA Heavy Artillery which is also the 204th PA Volunteer Infantry. On 23 August 1864 he mustered in and he mustered out with his battery 30 June 1865 (Bates Vol 5 p 609). He was the son of Jordan (39) & Rosanna (30) Deemer Main. His siblings included Nicholas (13), Mahala (9) Jane Main Ehrheart, Cecelia (7), Adam Tennyson Main (5), Joseph Main (2), and Nancy Elzena Main Nye born in 1854. They lived in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. 1880 Census Andrew is 41, married to Hannah (37), he is a stone mason living in Dempseytown, Venango County, PA with children Emma (13), Harry (11), Rosa (8), Mary (6), Nettie (3) and Otis 2 months. While he died in Franklin, Venango County he is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery which is North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


MAIN John (b. 14 February 1844 d. 25 July 1934) – Private Battery B 5th PA Heavy Artillery which is also the 204th PA Volunteer Infantry. On 23 August 1864 he mustered in and he mustered out with his battery 30 June 1865 (Bates Vol 5 p 609). 1860 Census his father John (40) and mother, Martha (35) farm and live in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, PA with the following children Eliza (17), Nancy (15), Mary (13), James (11), Hannah (9), John (7), Isabella (4) and newly born Dan. 1860 Census the family still farms in Wayne Township with additional children Wesley (6), Semantha (5) and Jourdan (3). 1870 Census John lives on the farm beside his parents, but he is a laborer with a wife, Hannah (19) and a child Rachel (7 months). 1880 Census John, now a 36 year old laborer is living with his parents on the farm in Wayne Township, PA. 1890 Veteran’s Census he lived in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. 1900 Census he lives with his brothers James & Daniel, and nephew James (14). He is a widower and a farm laborer in Wayne Township. 1910-1930 he is still living with his brothers on the farm. He died 25 July 1934 and is buried at North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, PA.


MAIN Nicholas (b. 17 September 1833 d. 1 August 1879) – Private Battery B 5th PA Heavy Artillery which is also the 204th PA Volunteer Infantry. On 23 August 1864 he mustered in and he mustered out with his battery 30 June 1865 (Bates Vol 5 p 609). 1850Census Nicholas is the 16 year old son of farmer Jacob Main (45) and his wife, Sarah (38) living in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. His siblings included Catharine (15), John (14), Jordan (8), Dallas (3) and Samuel (1). Several other Main families are listed in the Census around this family. Since there are four Main men who joined on the same day the 204th PVI the conclusion is that they were probably cousins or uncles and nephews. 1870 Census Nicolas, a farmer, is married to Maggie (31), they live in North Sewickley Township. In their household are the following children Wilson (14), Charles (11), Ann (8), Jacob (6), Clarra (3) and Certis (1). He and Maggie were no doubt married at the time of his military service. Nicholas died of consumption 1 August 1879 and is buried at North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, PA.


MCCASKEY, James (b. April 12, 1839, d. June 16, 1862 at James Island, S.C.). Enlisted 20 Jul 1861 as a corporal in Company K, Pennsylvania 28th Infantry Regiment. 1850 Census, James McCaskey was born in Franklin Township, Beaver County, PA. His father is John (52) and his mother is Jane (40) with 4 children Sarah (17), James (11), Eunice (8) and James (3). James died at Secessionville, Charleston County, South Carolina, USA which is listed as James Island, S.C. but there is a marker for him at North Sewickley Cemetery.

 

 


MCDANIEL Smith (b. 4 November 1834 d. 1 July 1892) – Private Co F 140th PA Volunteer Infantry 28 January 1864 to 6 December 1864. Bates reports he was wounded at Spotsylvania Court House, VA 12 May 1864 and discharged on a surgeon’s certificate 6 December 1964 (Bates Vol 4 p 426). 1860 Census Smith McDaniel is a 26 year old farmer, his wife’s name is Septena (25), with Ephm (5), Samuel (2) and Anna (5 months), living in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. He and his wife were married and had started a family before he entered the military. 1870 Census he is working on a farm in North Sewickley Township with his wife Sepemia (34) and Ephram (15), Samuel (13) and Amelia (10). 1880 Census still farming in North Sewickley with his wife and Samuel (22) and Anna (20). He received a pension for his military service when he was discharged, his wife received a widow’s pension on 1 October 1892. 1890 Veteran’s Census, still in North Sewickley Township, he had lost an arm when he was wounded. He died 1 July 1892 and is buried at North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, PA.


MELLON Andrew – Private to First Lieutenant Company G, PA 168th Infantry Regiment (b. Sept 21, 1837 d. July 22, 1865). He is buried at North Sewickley Cemetery. Enlisted 1 October 1862 as a Private then promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on 21 November 1862.Commissioned an officer in Company G, Pennsylvania 168th Infantry Regiment on 16 Oct 1862.

Mustered out with Company on 24 July 1863 (Company G is missing from Bates Vol 4 p 1145). 1860 Census: He was the son of John (74), a farmer born in Ireland and Sarah (61), born in Pennsylvania, Mellon from Brush Creek, New Sewickley Township. His siblings are Caroline (25), Samuel (21) and George (19). Already left home are brothers Thomas (37) and Archibald (30).


MORROW Charles (b. 13 March 1836 d. 3 September 1894) – Private Battery I 6th PA Heavy Artillery which is 212th PA Volunteer Infantry. He served from 30 August 1864 until mustered out with battery 3 June 1865 (Bates Vol 5 p 793). 1840 Census he was born in Shenango Township, Beaver County, PA which will become Lawrence County, PA in 1849. 1880 Census Charley is a farmer in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. He and Charlotte (40) have four children Josie (16), Robert (8), Edna (5) and john (1). He received a pension for his military service 14 August 1890 and his wife received a widow’s pension 15 October 1894. When he registered for the Civil War draft he was 27, married and living in Taylor Township, Lawrence County. He died 3 September 1894 and is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


NYE Benjamin – Private Co H. 193 P.V.I. (b. 1844 d. 1900) Bates has him listed in Company I, mustered in July 19, 1864 and discharged with his Company Nov. 9, 1864 (Bates Vol 5 p 388). He is buried at North Sewickley Cemetery, PA. The 193rd was organized at Camp Knox, Pittsburg, for 100 days, July 19, 1864. It was attached to 3rd Separate Brigade, 8th Corps, Middle Department. The Unit moved to Baltimore, Md., and assigned to duty as guard to bridges on Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad. Company “B” on provost duty at Wilmington, Del., August 10. Mustered out at Pittsburg November 19, 1864 . http://www.pa-roots.com/pacw/infantry/193rd/193dcoi.html


 

RAMSEY, Robert – Private, Co. H, 38th PA Infantry (b. 16 November 1837, d. 5 February 1917). He was mustered in 24 May 1861 and mustered out with his company May 12, 1864 (Bates History of PA Volunteers – Vol 1 p 808).

His wife was Tirzah (b. 1844, d. 1925). His father was James Ramsey and his mother was Jane Louis. Robert received an invalid pension 29 September 1890. His wife Tirzah received a widow’s pension 12 February, 1917.


SANFORD James B He is listed in the 1936 WPA Project as a Civil War Veteran buried at North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery the researcher could find no information about him.


SHOWALTER Robert M (b. 1845 d. 21 May 1908) – Private Battery B 5th PA Heavy Artillery which is the 204th PA Volunteer Infantry From 31 August 1864 until mustered out with battery 30 June 1865 (Bates Vol 5 p 610). 1850-1900 Census there is no Robert M Showalter on any Census Record. But in 1850 and 1860 there is a Mitchel Showalter who father John (45) is a farmer in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, married to Salina (46) and Mitchell is 26 with the following siblings Columbus (18), Barbara (16), Joseph (14), Washington (9), Nancy (11), James (6), and Hugh (4). Could that be out man? From then on Mitchell disappears from Census Records. Robert died 21 May 1908 and is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


STEVENS, Henry – Private Co. I, 140th PA Infantry (not listed in Bates Vol 4 p 433), (b. 1835, d. 1924) (Photo of Marker) the son of John and Mary Stevens from North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. His wife’s name was Louisa (b. 1857, d.1948) He enlisted in 1862 and served until the end of the war 1865. He had contracted malaria fever and was pensioned according to the 1890 Veterans Census. THOMAS James S. (b. Abt. 1840, d. June 14, 1869) – Private Co I 6th PA Volunteer Infantry Served from April 22 to July 22, 1861 (a 90 day regiment – Bates Vol 1 p 66). He later enlisted in Company H, Pennsylvania 101st Infantry Regiment on 29 Oct 1861.Mustered out on a surgeon’s certificate 7 February 1863 (Bates Vol 3 p 623).

He had been a farmer before the war. He is probably the James Thomas in the 1860 Census, a farmhand from Marion Township, Beaver County.  Father Austin (46), three siblings, no mother, Catherine (16), George (9), Baby (3). The cause of his death was listed as consumption. He is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


TREESE, David A. – Private Co H 28th PA Volunteer Infantry (b. 1826, d. 1909). Drafted for one year he mustered in Dec. 22, 1864. He mustered out with the Company July 18, 1865 (Bates Vol 1 p 467).

No other information was found about him except that he is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


WALTS William Marion (b. 1842 d. 13 February 1867) – Private, Co C, 9th PA Volunteer Infantry (a 90 day unit – Bates Vol 1 p 9) and later with Company H, 58th PA Volunteer Infantry on 01 Jul 1863. Mustered out on 15 August 1863 (not listed in Bates).

The places where he lived are unknown. He is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.

 

 


WEBBER Willie (William) P. (b. abt. 1848, d. Dec. 12, 1871) – Private Co B 64th PA Volunteer Infantry which is the 4th PA Volunteer Cavalry promoted to Corporeal. Mustered in 26 February 1864 and mustered out with Company 1 July 1865 (Bates Vol 2 p 536). 1860 Census: Willie’s father Henry (48), a minister, was the head of the North Sewickley Academy the Census lists all of the students who attended the Academy, including mother Henrietta (38) and siblings Anna (16), Willie (12), Martha (9), Henry (5) and Mary (2) plus six students.

He is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.

 


WILEY James (b. 1840 d. unknown) Private Co E 101st PA Volunteer Infantry from 24 February 1862 to 1865. He was captured at Plymouth, NC 20 April 1864. He died at Allegheny City, PA. Date unknown (Bates Vol 4 p 620). 1860 Census he is the 20 year old son of a farmer from North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA William (45) and Eliza (38). His siblings include Phebe (18), Nancy (16), Mary (14), Anna (12) and William (8). He is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. Draft Record he was 23, single and living in Franklin Township Beaver County, PA. He is among those Civil War Soldiers whose death is lost in History with no governmental accounting. He is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


YAHN Godfrey (‘George”) C (b. 1843 d. 1902) – Private Co D 41st PA Volunteer Infantry which is the 12th Reserve from 6 July 1861 to 25 November 1862 from which he transferred to the US Army (Bates Vol 1, p 895). 1850 Census he is the six year old son of a German immigrant farmer father Lewis (34) and Nancy (25 – born in Penna). He lives with his parents, grandmother Sophia (64) from Germany and siblings Susanna (5) and Lewis (2) in Franklin Township, Beaver County, PA. 1890 Veterans Census he lives in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. From 1860-1880 we cannot find him in the Census Records and in 1900 he is not found. He died in 1902 and is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


YOHO, Jacob (b.1841, d. 1917), enlisted in Battery B of 5th Regiment of Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (204th PA Volunteers) (Bates Vol 5 p 610). (Photo of Marker) He came in as a private and left as a private. He served from 22 August 1864 until he was mustered out with the battery 30 June 1865. He was the son of Daniel and Nancy Yoho of North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA. His wife was named Alice (b. 1855, d. 1915). He is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.
