Revolutionary War Veterans

Researched by James Hockenberry for the Ellwood City Area Historical Society. 

HAZEN Nathaniel (b. 17 March 1745 d. 3 November 1835). His marker indicates he served in the Continental Line in the Revolutionary War. His parents were John Hazen and Deborah Peck Hazen.  His sister was Eunice Hazen Reeder (1747-1817).  His brother was Isaac Hazen (1775-1851).  His Children included Jeremiah Hazen (1769 – 1814), John Hazen (1773 – 1851), Isaac Hazen (1775 – 1861), Deborah Hazen Hill (1782 – 1846) and Nathan Hazen (1786 – 1866). Burial at North Sewickley Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County. PA. There is a note at “Findagrave.Com that he was buried at Providence Baptist Cemetery, but the marker was moved to North Sewickley Cemetery.”


MAIN Philip Nicholas (b. October 1747 Gloucester County, NJ d 19 April 1835 Beaver Falls, PA) 12th Virginia Regiment, Revolutionary War. Philip has a REV. WAR head stone. He was a body guard to General George Washington. Spent 4 years in service and was wounded at the battle of Brandywine. His families, to this day, Jan 1, 2009, still live on his farm in Beaver Falls. He was the s/o John (Means) Main and Nancy McCord. His wife was Cloarianne “Clory” Rough. His children included Mary Susan Main Wiley (? – 1850), Nicholas Main (1783 – 1871), and Solomon Main (1794 – 1874). Burial: North Sewickley Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.


SWICK John (b. 1763 d. 13 July 1849) The WPA Project Report from 1936 says he served in the Revolutionary War. A Pennsylvania Veteran’s Burial Card says he is buried at Upper Presbyterian Cemetery, Ellwood City, Beaver County, PA. (There is a ‘findagrave.com’ record that says a John Swick who served in the Revolutionary War is buried at Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church Cemetery also in Ellwood City but on the Lawrence County side). 1810 Census lists him as a resident of North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA with a total of family of 5 members. Probably him and his wife and three children. 1830 Census he is still in North Sewickley Township with his wife and 4 children. He was rejected for a service pension because he could not prove he served. Burial: North Sewickley Cemetery, North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, PA.
